# What is a review bot, and does it actually work?

A review bot automatically asks for a review after a job is finished, with a direct link to your Google profile, and reminds once if it stays quiet. When a review comes in, it drafts your reply. All you do is flag that the job is done.

## Why reviews outweigh almost anything else you can do

For a local business the number of reviews, the average score and how recent they are are the most strongly measured factors in where you appear in map results. Stronger than your website, stronger than mentions on other sites, stronger than how much text is on your pages. It is also the only signal that touches both your position and your conversion: someone comparing two firms looks at the stars before clicking a site at all. And it is measurable in the short term, unlike most SEO work. The reason owners still do nothing about it isn't that they don't know, but that asking for a review is awkward and there never seems to be a good moment.

## The timing is the whole story

A review request that arrives three weeks after the job gets ignored. One that arrives a day later, while the customer is still pleased with the result and your name is still fresh, gets answered. That is the entire mechanism, and it is exactly what a person cannot keep up: after the job you drive on to the next one, and by the time you remember it is too late. The bot doesn't have that problem. You tick that it is done, it sends a short message within a day with a direct link — not to your profile, but to the star-rating window, so there is no search step in between. If it stays quiet, one reminder follows. After that nothing, because then it becomes nagging.

## Replying is part of it, and usually costs the most time

A profile where every review has a reply reads very differently from one with only stars. For a good review that costs two sentences; for a critical review it costs an internal debate, which is why critical reviews often go unanswered for months — precisely the ones a new customer studies longest. So the bot drafts a reply for every incoming review in your tone of voice, with the details of that job in it. You read it over, change what you want, and hit publish. It will not send without your approval: a public statement in your name is not something a model should do on its own.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is asking for reviews automatically allowed?

Yes, as long as you ask everyone and not only the happy customers, and as long as you offer nothing in exchange for a good rating. Google explicitly forbids the latter and at worst it costs you your profile. So the bot always asks neutrally, of everyone, with nothing in return.

### What does it do with a bad review?

The same as with a good one: it flags it and drafts a reply, with the details of that job attached. It does not send — with a critical review especially you want to decide what is said in your name. It does nudge, though: an unanswered critical review is exactly what a new customer studies longest.

### How many reviews does this produce?

That depends on how many jobs you finish and how happy your customers are — we cannot change those two. What we do change is the share who actually get asked: from ‘if I remember’ to everyone. In practice roughly one in four to one in six of those asked responds, and that climbs as your profile fills up.
