# What is a landing page, and when do you need one?

A landing page is a single page built around one search query or one advert. No menu full of distractions, but the visitor's question, the answer, the proof and one action. It stands apart from your site structure, so you can use it for a service or a campaign without rebuilding your whole website.

## Why a service page is a different animal

Your ordinary service page says what you do and for whom, with links to the rest of your site. That is right for someone who already knows you and is browsing. A landing page serves the visitor who just clicked a search result or an advert and decides within ten seconds whether to stay. They don't need navigation; they need confirmation that they are in the right place. So the search query is literally in the heading, the answer sits directly beneath it, and only then comes the proof: photos of comparable work, reviews, the service area. One action at the bottom, and the same action halfway. Anything that doesn't contribute comes off.

## Where AI comes into this

In two things, and both are invisible to the visitor. The first is the setup: what does someone searching for this actually want to know, which words do they use, which doubt has to go before they will call. We take that from what is already being asked about your trade, in Google and in the conversations your chat and phone line produce. The second is the structure under the bonnet: headings that each answer one question, an answer of forty to sixty words that an AI search engine can lift whole, and schema.org markup that says which service this is and where you work. That is what makes a page findable not just in Google but in ChatGPT and Perplexity too.

## When it pays off and when it doesn't

It pays off when you have one service that people genuinely search for and that you are good at, and that currently disappears among the rest of your site. It also pays off when you advertise: sending traffic to your homepage is throwing money away, because the visitor then has to work out where to go. It does not pay off when you make ten at once for ten variants of the same word. Those aren't landing pages any more but near-copies crowding each other out of the results, and Google treats them accordingly. One page per genuine service, with its own content and its own proof — and a second one only once the first is doing something.

## Frequently asked questions

### How many landing pages do I need?

Start with one, for the service you earn most from and that people genuinely search for. If it does something, add a second for a different service. Ten at once for ten variants of the same word is not a strategy but a stack of near-copies crowding each other out of the results.

### Can a landing page stand apart from my website?

It sits on your own domain, but outside your menu. That is the point: the visitor landing on it doesn't need to browse, and your site structure doesn't need rebuilding to add a service. Hosting is included, and it shares your site's design so it doesn't look like an outsider.

### What is the difference from an advert?

An advert buys the click, a landing page cashes it in. You need both if you advertise: sending traffic to your homepage means the visitor has to work out where to go, and they won't. Without ads a landing page still works, just more slowly: then the traffic comes from search results.
